Shedd Aquarium, “Stingray Touch” Experience

Nevin Hedlund Architects worked with the Shedd team to create this experience which includes a 20,000-gallon habitat, waterfall, life support systems, fold-down fencing, entry gates and informational signage. The shape of the habitat was deliberately designed to conform to the rays’ swimming patterns, and the undulating floor of the habitat provides a retreat for the rays and optimal touch opportunities for visitors.
